[*IJ. giRL$*] ...Before you carry on reading, the following entry is to oppose the claims made by The Sunday Times on IJ girls.
please refer to the following URL :
http://www.todayonline.com/pda/143587ag.htmI'm sure all IJ girls would feel offended by the claims made in the article published by The Sunday Times. For one, NOT all IJ girls are like that. Yes there may be some, but they are only a minority. Making such sweeping statements only reflects on the credibility of the SPH and the editor of the article. By making such GENERALISED remarks, it gives a bad reputation to the school and to all its students and teachers. Also, it reflects on how much the newspaper company cherishes news that sells, instead of news that matters. I'm greatly disappointed that such a reputable and established news agency can make such defamatory statements especially to the very schools that has contributed much to the Singapore society.
Freedom of speech comes with responsibility, and the media should know this best. By making such remarks, SPH should then take responsibilty of the negative image it has painted of the school. The IJ mission schools have contributed much to the society of Singapore. Rich in culture, the IJ schools in Singapore boast to inculcate a sense of duty in all students. Coming from an IJ school myself, I can safely and proudly say that the IJ schools in Singapore has done nothing wrong but provide an all rounded education to all of its students.
Within society, there will definitey be some black sheeps around. The comment that was made painted nothing but a bad and offending image of all IJ schools.
"'IJ girls' is a generalisation for girls who study in CHIJ schools and who like to hem their school uniforms real short, wear their belts real low on their hips, and are allegedly easy when it comes to the opposite sex," a paragraph read.Indeed there are some girls who do such alterations to the school uniform, but there are school rules that exist which counter such actions. Whatever it is, I hope that SPH would apologise for its offending statements as it has caused much distress amoung its students, pass and present.
